KONTAK, KONTAK Sok, KONTAK Boom(s)

RMANNCO can supply all of your 'eco-friendly' environmental cleanup needs and through it arsenal of 100% natural oil spill cleanup products!
A new way of cleaning up oil spills called, "bioremediation", was advanced and an arsenal of new oil spill cleanup products were invented/patented by Dr. Joseph A. Resnick, Chief Scientist at Petrol Rem, Inc. of Pittsburgh, PA (see Page 61, NASA Spinoff Magazine, September, 1994, ISBN 0-16-045368-2). The original product, called 'WAPED™', acronym for 'Water Pollution Eradication Device", was renamed to 'Petroleum Remediation Product', or PRP™, and is now re-branded as 'KONTAK™'. KONTAK™ incorporates technology invented by Dr. Joseph A. Resnick and featured in NASA Tech Briefs Magazine that tells about fabrication of microcapsules first made in space aboard STS 43. Building upon NASA's work in Space, Dr. Resnick perfected a method and built a machine that enabled microcapsules to be manufactured on earth. Using his newly-designed encapsulation machine, Dr. Resnick named and developed the Bio-Boom™, the Bio-Sok™, the Well-Boom™, Oil-Buster™, and EaSeaKlean™ all of which used WAPED/PRP for use in oil spill cleanup scenarios.
The KONTAK BOOM™ is an oil containment system that uses KONTAK™ powder along with a floatation device that stops oil migration and keeps oil separated from water where bioremediation occurs, In Situ . The products were invented and designed by Dr. Resnick and licensed to PetrolRem, Inc., in 1991. From 1991 thru 1999 Resnick continued to develop many new environmental products for Petrol Rem, including a version of PRP that comprises singular hollow wax spheres. That technology, singular hollow microspheres, was later patented by unauthorized persons but remained in Petrol Rem. Products invented by Dr. Resnick included, WAPED™ (Water Pollution Eradication Device), which is listed on the NCP Product Schedule under 40 CFR SubPart J and is the basic bioremediation technology used in other products, Bio-Boom™, Bio-Sok™, PRP™, Oil-Buster™, Well Boom™, Poly-Sorbe™, Micro-Sorbe™ and Bug-Buster™, etc. All of these products were invented by Dr. Resnick. A copy of the NCP Product Schedule which authorizes use of the products may be found at http://response.restoration.noaa.gov/book_shelf/671_intro.pdf .

Products Deployed in the Gulf of Mexico at BP Horizon Disaster

KONTAK(Tm) ... The Science of Using Beeswax to Cleanup Oil Spills as Demonstrated on the Mike Huckabee Show
On Saturday, June 12, 2010 Dr. Joseph A. Resnick demonstrated the KONTAK™ (formerly 'WAPED'™, or Water Pollution Eradication Device) product before a live television audience on the Mike Huckabee Show at the Fox News Studios in New York City. Dr. Resnick was invited to appear at the personal request of former Governor Mike Huckabee. The show highlighted a number of different oil spill cleanup methods being proposed by private individuals and some public officials as realistic methods that could be used to cleanup the massive oil spill that took place in the Gulf of Mexico as a result of the British Petroleum Deepwater-Horizon disaster that occurred on April 20. 2010. Since that date some government estimates report that nearly 40 million gallons of crude oil, along with one million gallons of a chemical dispersant, have been released in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Environmentalists believe that the effects of the BP Horizon Gulf Oil Spill will be felt for decades to come.
Dr. Resnick demonstrated his original formula and the new KONTAK™ products before the live TV audience with remarkable visual results clearly demonstrating the viability of using his bioremediation products to assist in mitigating the effects of the BP Gulf Oil Spill in progress in the Gulf of Mexico. Before and After Treatment....

In 1993 off the coast of Abu Dhabi, a barge carrying 4,000 metric tons of fuel oil sank during a severe storm
fouling beaches and a mangrove swamp along the Persian Gulf. The government of United Arab Emirates invited Dr. Resnick and Petrol Rem to test the bioremediation technology on-site. The treated sections of oil-soaked beach and mangrove showed significant improvements over other areas that remained untreated.
This is an excerpt from a letter received from Dr. Dhaberi of the UAE regarding deployment of Kontak(Tm), as follows:
"Dear Dr. Resnick,
The area treated with your products shows effective removal of the oil from the contaminated sandy beaches.
Sincerely,
Dr. Salem Al Dhaberi Director General, Federal Environmental Agency, United Arab Emirates"

Pemex, S.A. Oil Spill at "The Black Lagoon" in Cuernavaca/Villahermosa, Mexico.....

The Black Lagoon: In Mexico heavy oil spilled into a lagoon in Villahermosa, Mexico covering 95 percent of the water surface. Using Dr. Resnick’s WAPED/KONTAK product workers treated the water's surface and oiled soil along the shore.
Photographic renderings were used to demonstrate visual effectiveness. In only 18 days Mexican authorities noted a significant reduction in oil volume on the lagoon's surface. And, after 26 days approximately 75 percent of the spilled oil had been removed. The contaminated soil also showed significant recovery in only three weeks. Within 60 days waterfoul had returned to the estuary.

PRILLINGS....

The History of Prilling
Prilling has it foundations in the spray cooling of Ammonium Nitrate with its first commercial application described in a German patent in 1918. The first uses were actually not for the fertilizer version but rather product forms useful in formulation of explosives. For that purpose 2-fluid- and pressure-nozzles were applied as atomizers, taking the Particle Size Distribution (PSD hereafter) to as coarse as "95% between 400 and 2000 microns" equal to an average particle size (d50 hereafter) of 1200 microns or 1.2 mm.
The term "prills" did not originate until 1946 with mass production of the first true fertilizer-types products, where particles in the range of 1-4 mm were needed for direct dosing onto fields. For other purposes the prilling of molten nitrate was done with slowly rotating discs or "Buckets" (with holes), - or by means of relatively simple "showerheads" at the top of tall "prilling towers" which needed to be between 30-70 meters high. This assured cooling and prill-formation. The cooling, which led to solidification, was accomplished by a counter-current air stream (coascervation) with prills falling into a perpendicular 'drop column' inside the prilling towers. This was a very expensive and dangerous process. Special metal powders, sodium hydroxide, stearic acid, fats and certain wax powders were also used for various applications and produced in this way. One advantage was that the wax was able to carry a 50/50 payload of proteolytic enzymes for detergent use - and thus, this method of micro-encapsulation was appropriately termed, "prilling". The PSD, however, was only as "fine" as only the 200-500 micron (0.2-0.5 mm) range. Thus, RMANNCO, Inc. has continued to develop new high-temperature wax formulations and process for use across multiple industrial applications and for numerous product areas.
As show in the prior art, prilling is closely associated with cooling, chilling and congealing. Today, we term this area of science 'Phase-Change Materials', or, "PCM's". In the past, "Big", prilled drops were solidified by pure solidification of the melts in ambient atmospheres. Drying of big particles was a much slower and more complicated process, and even small prills required long processing times and more costly, bulky and cumbersome equipment - or would have to be made using agglomeration techniques. With prior prilling processes "Congealing" was the normally selected process for the making of prills. According to Websters Dictionary congealing is "the transition from a soft or fluid state to a rigid or solid as by cooling or freezing". Again, today these phenomenae are termed, "PCM's".
Definitions and applicable Prill-Atomization methods
For fertilisers and in-organic products prilling can be limited to the creation of products consisting of spherical particles with d50 in the 1000 -
4000 micron (1 - 4 mm) range by congealing of coarse droplets from melts only. For food and pharma products prilling can be confined to "smaller" sizes with d50 in the 200 - 1500 micron (0.2 - 1.5 mm) range, - the sizes up to maybe even 1mm average being obtainable by drying also - at least in combinations with fluid bed drying and special drying aids. The creation of a spray of droplets is traditionally called "atomization", but in connection with prilIing, this term is a misnomer.
RMANNCO's propietary "Pioneer-Patent' microencapsulation apparatus and methodology has advanced the art and science of creating 'Prills' and "PCM's" to the 'next generation'. This is enabled because RMANNCO brings "Technology...From The Space Shuttle...To The World (Tm)"!
